Summer openings 2023 at Big Bear Lodge & Cabins
Grand Marais MN
WELCOME TO BIG BEAR LODGE!
The place and space is special. Big Bear Lodge is nestled among towering red and white pine, majestic spruce and wise old cedar trees on a quiet bay of beautiful Poplar Lake. This is our home, and your home-away-from-home for the time you stay with us. Our rooms and cabins are comfortably rustic – rustic only in the sense of being in the Great North Woods in a traditional cabin of warm wood, and hand hewn log beams. Some of our cabins are so close to the lake you can watch the latest family of Loons swim by, eagles diving for their dinner, or fish jumping from the cool clear water. From any of our cabins, you can see shooting stars at night and watch breathtaking sunsets from the porch.
Your time away from the hustle and bustle is very important time, and we understand that here at Big Bear Lodge. Our guests are our number one priority, and we take great pride in providing you a very special place to relax and unwind during that most coveted time called vacation. Spending time away from the stresses of every day life is important to renew the soul. It is a time to reconnect with friends and family, and that includes bringing your favorite canine companion (up to two per cabin).
Vacations in this modern life also inlcudes a break from technology. Cell phone coverage ends just miles out of Grand Marais, but phones are available in the lodge, as is free Wi-Fi so you can get in touch on your schedule. There is no TV in the lodge, lodge rooms, or cabins. Other than live music, there are no planned activities at Big Bear – this wonderful, beautiful, and unique area is for you to explore and enjoy on your own, on your own time. Maps and information are available in the lodge and we are happy to help find that special retreat or place to explore that you may enjoy.
Sit on the porch and watch the lake, enjoy the sauna, lounge in the lounge, relax by the fire, enjoy a good book, game, or just the view. Canoe or Kayak around the islands and inlets, go hiking, exploring, or do absolutely nothing – your time is your time. We’ll keep the lantern on for you.
